Taiko (English spelling) dai-kou

Japanese: 帯鉤 - たいこう（英語表記）dai-kou

A type of belt fitting used in ancient China. One end is a hook, and a button-like fastener is attached to the center of the back, which is fixed to one end of the belt, and the hook is fastened to the other end of the belt to fasten it. The front is decorated with various ornaments, such as gold and silver inlays and animal motifs such as dragons, turtles, snakes, and birds. Materials used included bronze, iron, and glass. It is thought to have been brought to China during the Warring States period through negotiations with the northern border tribes, and was popular during that period and the Han dynasty.

中国古代に用いられた帯金具の一種。一端が鉤となり，裏面中央にはボタン状留金具がつき，それを帯の一端に固定し，鉤部を帯の他端に留めて締める。表には各種の装飾が施され，金銀を象眼したもの，竜，亀，へび，鳥などの動物文を表現したものなどがある。材料としては，青銅，鉄，ガラスなどが用いられた。戦国時代に北辺民族との交渉によって中国にもたらされたと考えられ，戦国時代，漢代に盛行した。
