The Northern Fujiwara clan, the first branch of the Saionji family. Its founder was Saionji Kintsune's third son, Saneo. His descendants became courtiers in succession, but during the Nanboku-cho period, the family split up and served both courts. In the second half of the 15th century, the line died out with the 9th generation, Kinkazu. It was revived by Saionji Sanemoto's son, Kinmuraji, but was again extinct.
