Akasaki [town] - Akasaki
An old town in Tohaku District, central Tottori Prefecture. The main settlement, Akasaka, is located in the Katsuta River basin that flows from Mt. Daisen. During the feudal era, it was a post station, and is now one of the prefecture's leading fishing ports. It is in a transitional zone between the commercial areas of Yonago and Kurayoshi, and in addition to rice, the town cultivates vegetables and Nijisseiki pears. It is home to Mt. Senjo. In September 2004, it merged with Tohaku Town, Tohaku District, to form Kotoura Town. 57.68 km2 . Population: 8,417 (2003).
