An old town in Tohaku District, central Tottori Prefecture. The main settlement, Akasaka, is located in the Katsuta River basin that flows from Mt. Daisen. During the feudal era, it was a post station, and is now one of the prefecture's leading fishing ports. It is in a transitional zone between the commercial areas of Yonago and Kurayoshi, and in addition to rice, the town cultivates vegetables and Nijisseiki pears. It is home to Mt. Senjo. 鳥取県中部,東伯郡の旧町。主集落の赤碕は大山(だいせん)から流れる勝田川の流域にあり,藩政時代は宿駅,いま県有数の漁港。米子(よなご)と倉吉両商圏の漸移地帯で,米作のほか,蔬菜,二十世紀ナシの栽培を行う。船上山(せんじょうさん)がある。2004年9月東伯郡東伯町と合併し,琴浦町となる。57.68km2。8417人(2003)。
