Free thinker (English)

Japanese: free thinker(英語表記)freethinker
Free thinker (English)

...Broadly speaking, it refers to those who seek to be free from religious authority in their way of thinking and living, and in this sense, free thinkers can be counted, from ancient Greek and Roman philosophers such as Epicurus and Lucretius, to 18th century Enlightenment thinkers, and even 19th century French thinkers such as Comte and Renan, and 19th century German thinkers such as Feuerbach, DF Strauss, and Marx. However, the term is usually used to refer to 17th century French "libertins" and late 17th and early 18th century British "free thinkers." Libertins are writers and thinkers who played a role in connecting Renaissance and Enlightenment ideas in 17th century France.
