Halva (English spelling) Uno Harva

A Finnish religious folklorist, he was a talented student of K. Krohn. Until 1927 he went by the name Holmberg. After graduating from theology, he first became a pastor, but then returned to university to study under Krohn and Setala. After receiving his doctorate, he became a lecturer in Finno-Ugric religious studies at the University of Helsinki, and eventually a professor of sociology at the University of Turku, a position he held until the end of his life. While learning from Krohn's methods, he pioneered his own field, and is known for his extensive research, particularly in the field of "folk beliefs," which he conducted by drawing on a vast amount of material.

フィンランドの宗教民俗学者で，K.クローン門下の逸材。1927年まではホルンベルグHolmbergと称していた。神学科を出て初め牧師となったが，再び大学の門をくぐりクローンやセタラらに師事した。学位を得てヘルシンキ大学のフィン･ウゴル宗教学の講師となり，やがてトゥルク大学の社会学の教授となって終生つとめた。クローンの方法に学びながらも自身の方向を開拓，ことに〈民間信仰〉の分野で，膨大な資料を縦横に駆使した研究で知られている。
