Streptococcus pneumoniae was discovered in human saliva by L. Pasteur in 1881, and its relationship to human pneumonia was confirmed in 1886 by Albert Fränkel's extensive research. In 1928, F. Griffiths first discovered transformation in this bacterium, and in 1944, OT Avery discovered that this transformation was caused by DNA, making it famous as the bacterium that triggered the subsequent development of genetics. …
