A scholar of Japanese classics in the late Edo period. His first name was Sadami, he was commonly known as Denbei and Genzaemon, his pen name was Dowa, and his pen name was Seiro and Nonosha. He was from Edo. His father was a samurai of the Karasuyama domain in Shimotsuke (Tochigi prefecture). He studied waka poetry under Yokose Sadaomi, a poet and retainer of the shogunate, and later entered the school of Kato Senkage. He achieved fame as a scholar of Japanese classics rather than as a poet. He was particularly known for his outstanding achievements in the study of Eiga Monogatari and Okagami. In addition to Okagami Tankansho and Eiga Monogatari Sho, he also wrote the essay Nonosha Zuihitsu and the poetry collection Nonosha Shu.

江戸後期の国学者。初名貞見,通称伝兵衛,源左衛門,字道和,号星廬,野々舎。江戸の人。父は下野(栃木県)烏山藩士。幕臣歌人横瀬貞臣に和歌を学び,のち加藤千蔭門に入る。歌人としてよりも国学者として名を成した。特に『栄花物語』や『大鏡』の研究にすぐれた業績を挙げる。『大鏡短観抄』『栄花物語抄』などのほか,随筆『野乃舎随筆』,歌集『野乃舎集』がある。
