Ouyang Jingwu (English spelling)

Japanese: 欧陽竟无 - おうようきょうむ（英語表記）Ōu yáng Jìng wú

1872‐1943
A famous modern Chinese lay Buddhist who revived the Yogacara philosophy. His given name was Jian, commonly known by the character Jiewu. He was from Yihuang County, Jiangxi Province. He initially studied Zhu Xi and Yangmingism, but after losing his mother at the age of 36, he turned to Buddhism and studied under Yang Wenhui (character name Renshan, 1837-1911) in Nanjing. After his death, he took over the Jinling School of Carved Sutras, founded the China Nai Gakkai, lectured on the Hosso and Yogacara schools, and also studied the Prajnaparamita Sutra, but in his later years he reached a position where he fused all of them. 中国，近代の著名な在家仏教徒で唯識哲学を復興した。名は漸，字の竟无で通用。江西省宜黄県の人。はじめ朱子学，陽明学を学んだが，36歳のとき，母を失ってから仏教に心を寄せ，南京の楊文会(字は仁山，1837‐1911)について学んだ。その没後は金陵刻経処をひき継ぎ，支那内学院を創設，法相･唯識2宗を講じ，さらに《般若経》を研究したが，晩年にはすべてを融合する立場に達した。【坂出祥伸】
