…Black writer and revolutionary thinker born on the French island of Martinique. While studying psychiatry in France, he began his critical career and attracted attention with the publication of Black Skin, White Masks (1952). From 1956, he participated in the Algerian Revolution as a member of the Algerian National Liberation Front, and died of illness after leaving behind such masterpieces as The Fifth Year of the Algerian Revolution (1960) and The Cursed of the Earth (1961). Through his analysis of the violence under colonial rule, he argued that violence alone is the means of liberating human beings, in opposition to the violence of colonial rule, and had a great ideological influence on the violent revolutions of the Third World since the 1960s. …
