A science that analyzes the behavior of individuals and groups within an organization, or the behavior of the entire organization, by drawing on basic academic fields such as sociology, social psychology, psychology, anthropology, and economics. Organizational theory can be broadly divided into two categories depending on whether the researcher's primary interest is in individual motivation or the structure of the organization. The former is called microorganizational theory, and the latter is called macroorganizational theory. Microorganizational theory sets the unit of analysis at individuals and small groups, and attempts to build theoretical models using basic variables such as individual personality and attitudes, cohesion that arises from interactions between members in a group, group pressure, and leadership.
