A native of the Tang Dynasty in China, he spent his life as a bureaucrat and politician, rising to the position of governor of Ye Commandery, but is famous for having compiled the Gedaihyo (Extras of the Secrets of the Greater Tai System) in 752 (Tianbao 11). His birth and death years are unknown. As the grandson of Wang Gui (571-639), Minister of Rites of the Tang Dynasty, he was likely quite old by 752. He was in poor health from a young age and had an interest in medicine, and during the 20-odd years he spent at Taikaku, he consulted medical books from the royal library and Kobunkan to collect prescriptions, which he compiled into the Gedaihyo.
