In France, there is no law that clearly defines the regency system, and the regent has been the queen mother, queen consort, uncle, sister, or close relative from time to time. During the Valois dynasty, Charles VIII's sister, Anne de Beaujeu, served as regent when he was a minor (1483-84). During the Bourbon dynasty, Henry IV appointed his queen as regent when he went to war, and Louis XIII, Louis XIV, and Louis XV all served as regents.
