1902‐50 Korean author. Born in Okgo, North Jeolla Province. His pen name was Shirabishi. He dropped out of Waseda University. He began publishing novels in 1925, and in the early days he took the position of an ally of the proletarian literature movement (KAP). From 1934 onwards he turned to scathing satire that mixed self-deprecating consciousness and social mockery without any attack, publishing works such as "The Life of a Lady-Maid" and "The Foolish Man." His representative full-length novels include "Muddy Current" (1937), which depicts the state of society, and "Under the Great Peace" (1938), which satirizes the inflated desires of city dwellers. "National Sinners," written after the liberation, is also a noteworthy work. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
