A nobleman in the mid-Heian period. Son of Tadahira and younger brother of Saneyori. In 923 (Encho 1), he was promoted to Junior Fifth Rank. He married Moriko, daughter of Fujiwara Kunitsune, and in 935 (Shohei 5) at the age of 28, he became a councilor. In 938 (Tenkei 1), he became Junior Third Rank and Gon Chunagon, and in 942 he became Dainagon. In 947 (Tenryaku 1), he was promoted to Minister of the Right and Junior Second Rank. Tadahira was succeeded as Kanpaku by his older brother Saneyori. The diary "Kyureki" contains "Kyureki Sho" in the Hinami no Ki, as well as a separate entry on annual events called "Kujodono-ki" which is a category containing only articles related to ceremonial etiquette, and "Tadanobu Kokyo-mei" which is a written record of his father Tadahira's teachings. All of these show that Michisuke placed great importance on the ceremonial etiquette he inherited from his father Tadahira, and we can sense his pride in his older brother Saneyori that his family was the one who was passing on his father's etiquette. "Kujo Nenchu Gyoji" is a compilation of Michisuke's ceremonial etiquette, and the separate entry in "Kyureki" was a preparatory step. These, along with "Kujo Ujo Soikai", were the origins of the Kujo school of court etiquette. He died as the Minister of the Right on May 4, 4th year of the Tentoku era. He was commonly known as Kujodono, after the place where he lived. Although Michisuke did not become regent, he was well-liked due to his good personality, and his daughter Anshi became the empress of Emperor Murakami and the mother of Emperors Reizei and Enyu, thus opening the door to a network of maternal relatives and paving the way for the succession of the regent position to his sons Kanemichi and Kaneie, and grandson Michinaga.
