…The 6th Section was established in 1947 after the Second World War as an expansion of the economics section, which was established in 1969, to deal with new research topics. In 1948, Lucien Febvre was appointed as the section chief, and the section developed active research activities based on the exchange of history, economics, sociology, anthropology, and other fields, becoming a central research institute supporting the prosperity of the human sciences in France after the war. After Febvre's death in 1956, Fernand Braudel became the section chief, and the name of the 6th Section became widely known, as he organized many joint research projects. In 1975, the section was separated from the other sections and renamed the École des hautes études en sciences sociales, which remains to this day. Its research activities are closely related to the Annales School of history. …
