A city in the southern part of Osaka Prefecture, facing Osaka Bay and located on the Osaka Plain. It was incorporated as a city in 1942. It belongs to the Senshu spinning and weaving industrial zone and has many small and medium-sized factories. In addition to cotton blankets, which account for over 90% of the nation's production, the city also produces woolen cloth and hosiery, dyeing and bleaching, rubber, and machinery. In recent years, petrochemical and steel factories have been established on reclaimed land, forming part of the Sakai-Senboku coastal industrial zone. In rural areas, rice is cultivated, and local vegetables and ornamental plants are cultivated. The city is served by the Nankai Electric Railway Main Line and the Hanshin Expressway Bayshore Line. Area: 14.31 ^km2 . Population: 77,548 (2010).
