Tadazane Ijuin

Japanese: 伊集院忠真 - いじゅういんただざね
Tadazane Ijuin

...A military commander in the Sengoku and Azuchi-Momoyama periods. Grandson of Yamatonokami Tadaaki Nyudo Kofune and son of Tadakura. First named Tadakane, commonly known as Genta, Uemon-dayu, and religious name Yukikan, he was the descendant of the fourth son of Yorihisa Ijuin (the sixth legitimate generation). Since his ancestors, he has been a member of the Isaku Shimazu clan. His grandfather Tadaaki was the most important vassal of the Isaku Shimazu clan. He was first an envoy for Shimazu Yoshihisa, and from 1566 (Eiroku 9) he was a kokuro (chief retainer) and held the top position among the Shimazu retainers until he was killed by Shimazu Tadatsune (Iehisa). After receiving a large fief of 80,000 koku in Shonai in 1595 (Bunroku 4), it is said that "his powerful spirit and ambition were clearly visible" (Honhan Jinbutsu-shi), but concrete evidence of his "ambition" is not known today.
