Household items - Oimono

Household items - Oimono

It is a type of Joruri and Kabuki script. It is a historical piece that covers incidents that occurred in the households of the shogun, feudal lords, and hatamoto during the Edo period, and is also called Oie Kyogen. It is also used as an abbreviation of "Oie Sou Dobutsu" (family feudal lord), but more accurately it includes stories of revenge such as "Chushingura." It was popular in Kyoto and Osaka during the Genroku period (1688-1704). A group of villains plot to embezzle from the lord's house and encourage the young lord to live a life of debauchery, and after the loyal retainer suffers hardships, the villains are defeated and the family is safe. This type of storyline was widely used in later "Nino-Kairi Kyogen" (spring theater). Many plays were also produced that were dramatized from real events, such as "Sendaihagi" from the "Date Disturbance," "Kagamiyama" from the "Kaga Disturbance," and "Kamakurayama" from the "Tanuma Disturbance." However, because the use of real names was prohibited by shogunate law, it was customary to dramatize the places and names of people by replacing them with those from the Hojo or Ashikaga periods, for example, by setting "Chushingura" in the world of "Taiheiki." After the Meiji period, this law was abolished, and many scripts were written that used real names.
