Temple Law - Jiinho

Japanese:
Temple Law - Jiinho
Written laws created individually at temples, and customary norms in temple society. There is no legal code that shows the existence of a unified norm, as there is with shogunate law and court noble law. Temple law can be broadly categorized into two types based on content. One is a non-worldly law that applies within the temple, and the other is a worldly law that applies to temple land. Temple law has temple law at its core, and from the Kamakura to the Nanboku-cho period, its scope expanded to include areas controlled by temple land. Temple law aims to maintain order within temples, and is basically the law of the monks' community that is inherent to Buddhist sects, and was established under the influence of Buddhist precepts and the ancient state law of soni-ryo, which controlled temples.
