Eboshiori - Eboshiori

Noh piece. Fourth piece. Current piece of Kanze, Hosho, Kongo, Kita four schools. Written by Miyamasu. Ushiwakamaru (child actor) fights against Kumasaka Naganori and his band of thieves who are attacking Kichiji Kinuri (waki) and his party, while the first part depicts the encounter between Ushiwaka and Eboshiya and his wife, surviving retainers of Minamoto no Yoshitomo. This dramatic Noh piece changes into 22 scenes, and was created in accordance with Zeami's insistence on mysterious Noh. The thief's henchmen in the interlude also have unique roles. The shite plays the husband of Eboshiya in the first part, and Kumasaka wearing a large sword in the second part. Ushiwaka, who plays an important role in both the front and back, is also a major role, and is also considered a piece for kokata to graduate from.

能の曲目。四番目物。観世、宝生(ほうしょう)、金剛、喜多四流現行曲。宮増(みやます)の作。金売り吉次(きちじ)（ワキ）一行を襲う熊坂長範ら群盗と戦う牛若丸（子方）を後段に、前段では牛若と源義朝(よしとも)の遺臣の烏帽子屋夫婦との出会いが描かれる。場面が22場に変化する劇的な能で、世阿弥(ぜあみ)の幽玄能の主張の一方に、こうした作品がつくられていたのである。間狂言(あいきょうげん)の盗賊の手下たちもユニークな役どころ。シテは前段では烏帽子屋の亭主となり、後段では大太刀(おおだち)を佩(は)いた熊坂に扮(ふん)する。前後の軸となって活躍する牛若も大役で、子方卒業の曲ともされている。
