Jinchuan (English spelling)

Japanese: 金川 - きんせん(英語表記)Jin-chuan; Chin-ch`uan
Jinchuan (English spelling)
This refers to the area around the Dajinchuan and Xiaojinchuan rivers in the northwest of Sichuan Province, China. It is said that this name was given to the area because of the gold that was produced in the area. Jinchuan is a cold, barren mountainous region, and in the Sui dynasty it was established as Jinchuan County, and in the Tang dynasty it became Weizhou, but the Tibetans controlled the area and Sinicization did not progress. In the Ming dynasty, the Zagu Anfusi was established and a tusi policy was implemented, which was continued by the Qing dynasty, who bestowed tusi on the leaders of Xiaojinchuan and Dajinchuan. In the 12th year of the Qianlong era (1747), a rebellion occurred (which was pacified two years later), and in the 36th year of the Qianlong era (1771), another rebellion occurred, and the Qing dynasty waged a five-year war to pacify the area. After that, the Qing dynasty implemented a policy of returning the area to the lands and bringing them under direct control of Sichuan Province, and Sinicization progressed.
