…金属の押出しは，初め1797年に機械的ピストンを用いて鉛を対象として鉛管を製造するために行われた。押出しの際に主として用いられる加圧装置は長行程の液圧プレスであるが，この液圧プレスが初めて鉛管の押出しに適用されたのは1867年で，近代的な押出機としての形をまとめたのはドイツ人ディックG.A.Dickであり，94年のことであった。鉛に次いで銅，銅合金の棒，管，形材の押出しが行われるようになり，20世紀の金属であるアルミニウムとその合金は1960年ごろ建設材料として実用化されると同時に押出しにより棒材や形材が製造されるようになった。…
