A spring located in Shibokusa, Oshino Village, Minamitsuru County, Yamanashi Prefecture. It is a nationally designated natural monument. It consists of eight ponds: Wakuike, Deguchiike, Sokonukeike, Choshiike, Okamaike, Nigoriike, Kagamiike, and Shobuike. The amount of spring water and seasonal fluctuations in water temperature are fairly constant, and it is thought that the source of the water is the groundwater of Mount Fuji. Along with Lake Yamanaka, it is an important source of water for the Katsura River, as well as for the water supply, irrigation, and fish farms in Oshino Village and other areas. It was a sacred place where Fuji-ko followers made a pilgrimage to the eight seas. The view of snow-capped Fuji from here is excellent, making it a tourist destination no matter the season. In 2013, Oshino Hakkai was registered with the World Heritage List as "Mount Fuji - a place of worship and a source of artistic inspiration" along with the Mt. Fuji region, surrounding shrines, and the Fuji Five Lakes. Take a 20-minute bus from Mt. Fuji Station to Uchino via Omiyabashi, then get off at the Oshino Hakkai entrance and walk for 5 minutes.
