Fujiwara no Oguro-maro

An aristocrat of the Nara period. Son of Fujiwara Torikai and the daughter of Otomo no Michitari. Grandson of Fusasaki. For his contributions in the Fujiwara no Nakamaro Rebellion (764), he was appointed to the rank of Junior Fifth Rank and Ise no Kami. He subsequently served as Shikibu no Shoyu, Chue no Shosho, Ueji no Kami, and local governor of Kozuke (Gunma Prefecture), and in 779 he became a councilor. The following year, he replaced Fujiwara no Tsugutsuna as an ambassador to the East to subjugate the barbarians, but achieved little. In 790 he was promoted to Dainagon and conducted land surveys for the relocation of the capital to Nagaoka-kyo and Heian-kyo. Kazuno Maro, born to his wife, Hadashima Maro, served as an ambassador to the Tang Dynasty for 22 years. His daughter, Kamiko, entered the harem of Emperor Kanmu and gave birth to Princess Shigeno.

奈良時代の貴族。藤原鳥養と大伴道足の娘の子。房前の孫。藤原仲麻呂の乱(764)の功績で従五位下,伊勢守に叙任。以後,式部少輔,中衛少将,右衛士督,また上野(群馬県)などの地方長官を歴任し,宝亀10(779)年参議。翌年藤原継縄にかわって征東大使として征夷に当たったが,成果はあげていない。延暦9(790)年,大納言に昇任し,長岡京,平安京遷都の土地調査を行った。妻である秦嶋麻呂との間に生まれた葛野麻呂は,22年,遣唐大使を務めている。娘上子は桓武天皇の後宮に入り,滋野内親王を産んでいる。
