A genus of the orchid family native to tropical America. It resembles Cattleya overall, but has a long peduncle, good flowering, and a small lip. There are about 75 wild species, and many hybrids have been made between them and other genera, but the Laeriocattleya, which was made with Cattleya, is particularly famous. It is cultivated in greenhouses using sphagnum moss and bark as planting materials. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
