Bishamon no Honji - Bishamon no Honji

Japanese: 毘沙門之本地 - びしゃもんのほんじ

The title of a sekkyobushi song. The original work was written by Tenma Hachidayu and published around the Hoei period (1704-11). It is in six sections. It is a honjimono that tells the origin of Bishamonten of Kurama. It begins with a fleeting love between the Golden Prince of Iwakura and the Princess of Kuru. After the Princess dies, the Prince searches for her in the Pure Land of Tsutsui, but is able to meet her with the help of the Undressing Old Woman of the Sanzu River, Jizo Bodhisattva, the Stars, the Tanabata Man, and a monk. Later, by order of King Brahma, the Prince and Princess become Bishamonten and Kisshoten, and are enshrined in Kurama to work for the salvation of all living beings.

説経節の曲名。天満（てんま）八太夫の正本で，刊行は宝永(1704‐11)ころ。六段構成。鞍馬の毘沙門天の由来を語る本地物。維縵（ゆいまん）国の金色太子と，くる国の姫宮のはかない恋に始まり，姫は死に，太子は姫のいる〈つついの浄土〉を尋ねるが，三途河の脱衣婆，地蔵菩薩，星，七夕の男，僧侶などの手引きで会うことができた。後に梵天王の命によって太子と姫は毘沙門天と吉祥天になり，鞍馬に鎮座して衆生済度につくす。
