Okisen-do
〘Noun〙 In the Edo period, the person in charge of operation who actually boarded the ship as the captain. In cargo ships, he also served as the person in charge of commercial transactions. This word is the opposite of the term "resident shipmaster" for the owner of a cargo ship. A boarding shipmaster. ※Ukiyo-zoshi, Nihon Shin Eitaigura (1713) 1 "The words of the old offshore boatman about escaping a somewhat difficult storm are quite true."
