Japanese: アコンカグア[山] - アコンカグア

A mountain in South America, straddling the border between western Argentina and Chile. It is 6,959 meters above sea level. It is the highest peak in the Andes and the highest in both the Western and Southern Hemispheres. It has a conical volcanic shape and is thought to be a volcano, but there are no craters or records of eruptions. Above 4,500 meters it is covered in permanent snow and glaciers. It was first reached by the British E. Fitzgerald team in 1897. In 1953, a Waseda University climbing team reached the summit. The Uspayata Pass runs along the southern foot of the mountain range.

南米，アルゼンチン西部，チリ国境にまたがる山。標高6959m。アンデス山脈の最高峰で，西半球および南半球でいちばん高い。円錐火山状の山容をもち火山と考えられているが，火口も噴火の記録もない。4500m以上は万年雪と氷河におおわれる。1897年英国のE.フィッツジェラルド隊が初登頂。1953年早大登山隊が登頂。山塊の南麓をウスパヤタ峠が通る。
