A three-quarter length top worn by both men and women in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and other parts of India. Made of cotton or silk and cut in straight lines, it has small triangular gussets under the sleeves and large triangular gussets on the body, and deep slits on both sides. It is worn over the head without opening the front. It is always worn with a trouser-type undergarment called a shalwar or churidar, and a headgear called a dupatta or chuni is also worn.
