Ookuchi basin

A basin in northern Kagoshima Prefecture, centered on Isa City. It is also called the Isa Basin. It is bounded to the north by the Kunimi Mountains, which border Kagoshima and Kumamoto Prefectures, to the east and west by their spurs, and to the south by Mount Kunimi. It is a basin in the Sendai River basin, with an area of ​​about 43 square kilometers. Its altitude is about 170 meters. The Sendai River flows west along the southern edge of the basin, but merges with the Hatsuki River, which flows south from the Kunimi Mountains, near the outlet of the basin. There is Sogi Falls, made of welded tuff, and the water that passes through here flows through a gorge and enters the Tsuruta Dam Lake. It has a basin climate, with an average annual temperature about 2°C lower than Kagoshima City. Paddy field cultivation is thriving, taking advantage of the abundant water and land.

鹿児島県北部、伊佐市(いさし)を中心とした盆地。伊佐盆地ともよぶ。北は鹿児島・熊本両県を境する国見(くにみ)山地、東と西はその支稜(しりょう)、南部は国見岳によって囲まれる。川内川(せんだいがわ)流域の盆地で、面積は約43平方キロメートル。標高170メートル内外。川内川はこの南縁に沿って西流するが、国見山地から南流した羽月川(はつきがわ)と盆地の出口付近で合流する。そこには溶結凝灰岩からなる曽木の滝(そぎのたき)があり、ここを通った水流は峡谷を抜けて鶴田ダム湖へ入る。盆地気候を示し、年平均気温は鹿児島市と比較し2℃ほど低い。豊富な水と土地を利用して水田耕作が盛んである。
