Copeland, MA

...This is a statistic that (1) divides the national economy into various sectors such as companies, households, governments, and financial institutions, and sets the counterparties of foreign transactions as the overseas sector, (2) classifies the flow of financial funds into financial asset and liability items such as cash currency, deposit currency, time deposits, trusts, insurance, loans, government bonds, corporate bonds, stocks, and trade credits, and (3) records the flow of funds in the entire economy as receipts and payments of funds in each sector in a consistent manner. This began with Morris A. Copeland (1895- ) of the United States in his "Studies in the Money Flow" (1952), and was continued by the Federal Reserve Board of the United States and published in 1955. European central banks were also inspired by this and began to create their own flow of funds tables, and the tables and their analysis of the Bank of England in the United Kingdom and the Bundesbank in West Germany are particularly noteworthy.
