A city in eastern Kanagawa Prefecture facing Sagami Bay. It was incorporated as a city in 1939. The city center was the site of the Kamakura Shogunate, and is surrounded by hills on three sides, so there are roads called "kiritoshi" that cut into the hills in various places. There are many shrines, temples and historical sites, and it is also a representative tourist destination in the Shonan region, and is known as an international cultural and tourist city. There are also many high-end residential and villa areas. Ofuna is the junction of the Tokaido Line and Yokosuka Line, and the Shonan Monorail to Enoshima was opened in 1971. Housing development along the line has progressed, and the number of commuters to Keihin is also increasing. Ofuna is also an industrial district, with general machinery and electrical equipment industries thriving. The city is home to the remains of the shogunate, temples including the Five Mountains of Kamakura, historical sites such as Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, the Great Buddha of Kamakura, Hasedera Temple, and Wakamiya-oji Street, scenic spots and swimming beaches such as Inamuragasaki, Shichirigahama, and Yuigahama, as well as the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Modern Art and the Kamakura National Treasure Museum. The Enoshima Electric Railway (Enoshima Electric Railway) runs along almost the entire coastline of the city. Kamakura carvings are a specialty of the city. Area: 39.67 km2 .
