Japanese: コバネガ(小翅蛾) - コバネガ

A general term for insects in the Micropterigidae family of the Lepidoptera order. All are tiny moths that are active during the day. They have the most primitive form among the Lepidoptera, and some scholars consider them to be a separate order. The scientific name Zeugloptera is used whether as a suborder of Lepidoptera or as a separate order. Like the Pterygotae family, not only are the shape and venation of the forewings and hindwings almost identical, but this family is the only one that has developed mandibles and a chewing mouth. The mouthparts of other Lepidoptera have evolved into a long, tubular absorbing opening called a proboscis or tongue, so in this respect the Micropterigidae can be said to be extremely primitive.

鱗翅目コバネガ科Micropterigidaeの昆虫の総称。すべて昼間活動する微小なガ。鱗翅目のなかでもっとも原始的な形態をもち，学者によっては別の目とすることもある。鱗翅目の1亜目としても別の目としても学名はZeuglopteraが使用される。コウモリガ科などと同様に，前･後翅の形と脈相がほぼ等しいばかりでなく，この科だけは大あごが発達していてそしゃく口をもっている。他の鱗翅目の口器は口吻（こうふん），あるいは舌と呼ばれる細長い管状の吸収口に進化しているので，コバネガはこの点きわめて原始的といえる。
