...Although it does not grow wild in Japan, the following species are cultivated for decorative purposes. J. officinale L. (English name: poets jasmine, common white jasmine) (illustration) is a climbing evergreen shrub that grows wild in India, Afghanistan, and Iran. It was introduced to Europe long ago, and is said to have been introduced to Japan from China in 1819.
