Cochlear Canal (English)

…During this time, a new traveling wave that oscillates up and down is generated in the basilar membrane. The scala vestibule also contains the triangular-sectioned cochlear duct (cochlear canal) formed by the thin Reissner's membrane, which also coils in a spiral shape. This part, also called the scala media, is part of the membranous labyrinth, and is filled with endolymph. The organ of Corti, the organ of hearing, sits on top of the basilar membrane that forms the bottom of the scala vestibule.
