Battle of Yashima

Japanese: 屋島の戦 - やしまのたたかい
Battle of Yashima
The Genpei War took place on February 19, 1185, at Yashima in Sanuki (Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture). After losing the Battle of Ichinotani, the Taira clan, led by their commander Taira Munemori, based themselves in Yashima, but were defeated by a surprise attack from Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who had caught them from behind, and they fled across the Seto Inland Sea. Stories about Nasu no Yoichi's fan target and Yoshitsune's arrow-flying battle are told. → Battle of Dannoura → Related article Taira no Kagekiyo
