[Death in Living Things]
Death is the breakdown of the orderly and controlled form and function of a living system. Originally, it is a concept referring to the loss of life of an individual organism, but it can also be applied to species and populations, as well as systems such as organs, tissues, cells, and protoplasm. Death from old age, that is, surviving to the end of one's lifespan, is rare in nature, with most individuals dying from external factors such as predation, disease, starvation, weather, and accidents. If you record the ages at the time of death of individuals from a group of organisms born at the same time and draw a curve, you can obtain the following three types of curves:
