There are tin(II) chloride and tin(IV) chloride.

The chemical formula is SnCl ₂ . It can be obtained by dissolving metallic tin in hydrochloric acid or by electrolytic reduction of an aqueous solution of tin(IV) chloride. The anhydrate is a colorless orthorhombic crystal with a melting point of 246.8°C and a boiling point of 623°C. The dihydrate SnCl ₂ ･2H ₂ O is a colorless monoclinic crystal that dissolves in water of crystallization at 37.7°C and decomposes into hydrochloric acid and basic tin(II) chloride Sn(OH)Cl. It dissolves in acetone, alcohol, etc. It precipitates as the hydroxide in alkali, but dissolves in excess alkali to become alkaline stannate.

　化学式SnCl₂。金属スズを塩酸に溶かすか，塩化スズ(IV)の水溶液を電解還元して得られる。無水和物は無色の斜方晶系の結晶で，融点246.8℃，沸点623℃。2水和物SnCl₂･2H₂Oは無色の単斜晶系の結晶で，37.7℃で結晶水に溶けて塩酸と塩基性塩化スズ(II)Sn(OH)Clに分解する。アセトン，アルコールなどに溶ける。アルカリには一度水酸化物として沈殿するが，過剰のアルカリに溶けて亜スズ酸アルカリとなる。
