Cisplatin

…In 1815, Brazil was elevated to a kingdom and placed on an equal footing with Portugal. In 1816, Portuguese troops occupied Uruguay, which was annexed to Brazil as the province of Cisplatina in 1821. At the request of his home country, which had been liberated after the fall of Napoleon, King João VI returned to Brazil in 1821, but left Prince Pedro behind.
