Also known as the mercury process. A smelting method that takes advantage of the fact that gold and silver tend to form amalgams with mercury. The ore is crushed with mercury to form an amalgam, which is then poured over a copper plate with an amalgamated surface, capturing the gold-silver amalgam. 混汞(こんこう)法とも。金,銀が水銀とアマルガムをつくりやすいのを利用した製錬法。鉱石を水銀とともに粉砕してアマルガムを形成させ,表面をアマルガム化した銅板上を流すと,金・銀アマルガムが捕集される。のち水銀を蒸留で除く。実収率が低く現在は行われない。
