...They are rarely seen except when they are seen gathering around carrion at night. The smallest species, the little armadillo, Chlamyphorus truncatus , is 12-15 cm long. It has a band-like shell on its back, and its rump and tail are covered with another round shell, giving it an overall appearance resembling a rice bale.
