Footwear worn by the indigenous people of Mexico. The exact etymology of this word is unknown, but the most likely theory is that it originated from the Tarascan language of western Mexico. There is also a popular belief among Japanese people that it originates from the Japanese word "waraji." Today, huaraches used by Mexican farmers are made with rubber cut from old tires and other materials for the sole, covered with leather, and are a combination of straw sandals and sandals. Footwear seen in stone carvings from the pre-Hispanic period is diverse in both shape and decoration. [Ooi Kuniaki] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
