Ishikuni Station appears in the Engishiki as a station in Suo Province, and it has been a key location on the Sanyo Road since ancient times. Ishikuni Manor appears in the Suo Province Ishikuni Manor Tadaninto Jushisho (Documents of the Nosaka Family) from 1237 (Kasei 3), and in 1302 (Kengen 1) it was the royal estate of Emperor Go-Horikawa's daughter, Muromachi-in Teruko.
