...The manuscript was completed in 1773 (An'ei 2), and published in 1778 (there are two types of printed versions, the one annotated by Matsuo Sutejiro and the one in the Kokugogaku Taikei series). Seisho classified all words into four types: nouns (nouns), yosoi (verbs), kazashi (adverbs and prefixes), and ayui (particles, auxiliary verbs, and suffixes). In contrast to the "Shotosho" (1767) and "Sosho" (not understood), this book divides the ayui into five types and 50 categories, and notes on the connections, meanings, usage, historical changes, and proof of each word. Colloquial translations are provided for the words and proof of each.

…These are mainly semantic distinctions, but it cannot be said that the nature of inflection was not taken into account for kotoba (words) and yōgen (words in use). Fujitani Nariakira was the first to present an orderly classification in the Edo period, and he tried to include all words in four categories: noun, kazashi (insertion), yosoi (ornament), and ayui (foot binding). Foot binding (kazashi) (see also the entry for Ayuhi-shō) is a particle, sō (ornament) is a predicate, and sō (insertion) includes various words that stand in the modifier case, conjunctions, interjections, and pronouns of things, with sō being the most diverse, but it is important that in addition to the main terms of nouns and predicates, a class of subordinate terms was created for them. …
