A book in the Old Testament. Since the Greek translation (Septuagint), it has been called Lamentations and placed after the Book of Jeremiah, but in the Hebrew Scriptures it is simply called Lamentations and placed in the third part of the Old Testament. The connection of Lamentations with Jeremiah is thought to be due to the passage in 2 Chronicles 35:25. However, the book is centered on a lament sung immediately after the fall of Jerusalem in 586 BCE, and its author is unknown. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
