A town in Yama County in the mid-west of Fukushima Prefecture. It occupies the southwestern slope of Mt. Bandai and the eastern part of the Aizu Basin. The central settlement of Otera developed as a post station on the Nihonmatsu Highway, and the Ban'etsu West Line runs through it. Rice and field crops are cultivated here.
