…(3) Exclusive Jurisdiction and Voluntary Jurisdiction In terms of the nature of the rules that determine jurisdiction as described above, there are cases where the jurisdiction is based on a public interest request and therefore the lawsuit must be handled in that court (exclusive jurisdiction), and cases where the jurisdiction is determined primarily from the standpoint of private interest, such as ensuring the convenience and fairness of the parties (voluntary jurisdiction). In the case of voluntary jurisdiction, the parties can agree to sue in a different court (this is called an agreement on jurisdiction, and the jurisdiction that arises from this is called consensual jurisdiction), and if the defendant responds to the lawsuit, jurisdiction arises in the court where the lawsuit is filed, even if the jurisdiction is different (this is called responsive jurisdiction).
