Ako [city] - Ako

Japanese: 赤穂[市] - あこう

The city is located in the southwestern corner of Hyogo Prefecture, occupying the middle and lower reaches of the Chikusa River and facing the Harima Nada Sea. It was incorporated as a city in 1951. The Ako Line and Sanyo Expressway pass through the city center, which developed as a castle town for the Asano clan and others. In addition to salt production, which has been carried out since the feudal era, pharmaceutical, textile, steel, metal and cement industries are also active, and the development of the Harima Industrial Region is progressing with the conversion of salt fields into industrial land. There are many historical sites related to the Ako Roshi, such as Oishi Shrine, Hanagakuji Temple, and the former home of Oishi Yoshio (historic site), and there is a municipal marine science museum related to salt and the sea. The Sanyo Main Line and National Route 2 pass through the city. Area: ^{126.86 km2} . Population: 50,523 (2010).

兵庫県南西端，千種(ちくさ)川中・下流域を占め，播磨灘に臨む市。1951年市制。赤穂線，山陽自動車道が通じる中心市街は浅野氏などの城下町として発達。藩政時代以来の製塩のほか，製薬・繊維・鉄鋼・金属，セメント工業が行われ，塩田を工業地に転用するなど播磨工業地域の造成も進む。大石神社，花岳寺，大石良雄宅跡（史跡）など赤穂浪士の史跡が多く，塩と海に関する市立海洋科学館がある。山陽本線，国道２号が通じる。126.86km²。５万523人（2010）。
