Interior design

Japanese: インテリア・デザイン - いんてりあでざいん（英語表記）interior design

It refers to all designs related to the entire indoor environment, including decoration, furniture, equipment, lighting, etc. inside a building. It is said to have originated in the architecture of European palaces. In addition to residential buildings, it is a wide range of design, including commercial facilities known as commercial interior design. In any case, a wide range of conditions must be designed rationally and economically, including the relationship with the building as a whole and the relationship with the users who will occupy the room. Interior designers are responsible for this series of tasks. An interior coordinator is a specialist certified by the Japan Interior Industry Association who makes suggestions and advice on living spaces.

建築の内部における装飾、家具、設備、照明など室内環境全体にかかわるすべてのデザインをいう。その起源は、ヨーロッパの宮廷建築にあるという。住宅の他、コマーシャル・インテリア・デザインと呼ばれる商業施設を対象とするものまで幅広い。いずれにしても、建築全体との関係をはじめ、室内を占有する使用者との関係などの多岐にわたる諸条件を合理的かつ経済的にデザインしなければならない。この一連の作業を行うのが、インテリア・デザイナーである。ちなみにインテリア・コーディネーターとは、(社)インテリア産業協会が認定する資格で、住空間への提案・助言を行う専門家のことをいう。
