A game in which players hit a flat ball with a shuttlecock with bare hands, similar to volleyball. The ball is called "indiaca" and is shaped like a larger badminton shuttlecock. Inspired by the traditional Brazilian game "peteca," German sports teacher Karlhans Krohn invented it in 1936. The ball's speed is relatively slow, so rallies are easy to maintain and players can get a moderate amount of exercise. In addition, there is little fear of the ball, so even people who are not familiar with ball games can enjoy it. The court is a badminton court and the standard number of players is four on four. It was introduced to Japan around 1970, and in 1980 the Japan Indiaca Association was established and tournaments began to be held. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
